About Me

Lis Welch (@WelchLis) is a game designer, editor, and writer living in Brazil with their partner and five cats. She has called over fifteen cities home throughout her life, developing nomadic roots and valuing the flexibility of freelance work. Her name appears in works published by HarperCollins, Jambô, and Renegade Games Studios. As a queer creator, she writes about all things weird, from fiction and TTRPGs to politics and technology. Her works bring to life diverse characters, intricate plots, and truths too uncomfortable to read aloud. The Coleção Arton — a project she contributed to as a writer and sensitivity reader — earned two Golden Goblins and two Ludopédia Awards, the most prestigious RPG awards in Brazil. With an activist spirit, she founded Oasis Queer, Brazil’s largest TTRPG collective for minority groups, and helps lead Mutirão Imaginário, a social project that brings artistic creation to underprivileged children in São Paulo through TTRPGs. Her work advocating for social issues in RPGs earned her the D20 Awards for Best Informative Content. In past lives, she has been a graphic designer, model, and even a musical theater actress, but now she dedicates herself to her greatest dream: writing. When she’s not working, you might find her cooking for friends, dancing to the sound of Florence, or on social media talking about games, art, açaí, and diversity.

"Lis tackled an epic project with the courage of an adventurer from the greatest sagas. More thanbravery, she demonstrated competence and professionalism, delivering a sensitive andcomprehensive critical review. Beyond just pointing out the problematic issues, she suggestedcorrections and explained her observations to assist the creative team. We benefited from thelearning; the book gained in quality; and all readers received a more polished work that respects thediverse members of the community."

— Guilherme Del Svaldi

General Director at Jambô
and author of Tormenta

"The sensitive reading report that Lis produced for HarperCollins was incredibly thorough and organized.By highlighting both general points and specific excerpts of the work that deserved attention, andclearly and eloquently explaining why we should reconsider certain factors, she helped us make thebook a much more rewarding reading experience for everyone. She also illuminated how otheraspects embraced and supported the trans community, providing reassurance to the author, whichwas very positive. I loved her work and hope we can collaborate again soon."

— Chiara Provenza

Editor at HarperCollins

"I had the opportunity to work side by side with Lis at A Passagem magazine, and I must say that Iconsidered the project amateur until her arrival. Her hiring ensured not only the critical evolution ofthe magazine, considering her extremely competent sensitive reading and proofreading, but also theoverall editorial quality, as she showed immense willingness to take on more roles than agreed upon.Initiative, passion, dedication, and, if I may say, even devotion capture the intensity of her work."

— Miguel Souza

She treated my project with immense care and respect throughout. I havenothing but praise for Lis's work—she proved to be an incredibly approachable and skilledprofessional.
